Falling asleep can be very difficult, especially if you are in a lot of pain. I often struggle with it myself.
Golden Milk (for me personally) is a delicious recipe to use before going to sleep, although I must confess that I use regular (cow) milk instead of vegetable milk. In addition to helping you fall asleep, it does a lot more.
“Golden milk” is a famous Ayurvedic recipe in which turmeric plays the main role.
Delicious before going to sleep and very healthy. Turmeric helps in the production of enzymes for digestion. It strengthens the liver, aids in detoxification, strengthens your immune system and inhibits inflammation. In Ayurveda, digestion is seen as a crackling fire that gives us energy and zest for life. Much needed for all chronic pain patients.
Ingredients for 2 persons
- 600 ml plant-based milk such as almond or coconut milk, unsweetened
- 2 large tsp turmeric, freshly grated (or 1 tsp powdered)
- 1 stick cinnamon (or ½ tsp powdered)
- pinch of Celtic sea salt
- ½ tsp cardamon powder
- pinch of black pepper (helps the absorption of turmeric)
- 2 tsp ginger, freshly grated (or 1 tsp powdered)
- 2 tsp honey or rice syrup, optional
Add the milk with the fresh herbs (without the honey) to a blender and grind it fine. In case you use powdered herbs, you can skip the blender step.
Pour it into a saucepan. Heat this for about 5 minutes, but do not let it boil. Keep stirring. Pour it through a sieve into 2 large cups, sweeten with honey if desired and drink as hot as possible.
