White sugar is one of the most addictive substances on our planet. It is more addictive than cocaine or heroin. It is terribly bad for us and it can cause many other complaints and diseases in addition to chronic pain. Yet, it is in everything we eat and we are all addicted to sugar.
Sugar works just like other addictive substances. The more you eat, the more your body wants. If you stop eating sugar, you will experience withdrawal symptoms. You suddenly see all the commercials with soft drinks, candy, chocolate, cookies, desserts, etc. You see it everywhere in the store. Some people even panic when there is no chocolate in the house.
Like other addictions, you can also kick this addiction. It can be done within one month. The best way is to cut ALL added sugars right away. These sugars can have different names, therefore reading product labels is very important. This actually means that you can only buy pure ingredients (vegetables, fruit, unbreaded meat, etc.) and process this into a dish yourself. I myself was forced to do so by the low FODMAP diet. I make everything myself. Even the spice mixes. It's a lot of work, but it makes me feel so much better. Watch the following video for inspiration.
After about one month, your body will be rid of the addiction. You are over the withdrawal symptoms. There are several programs, Facebook groups and other groups that you can join to eat sugar-free. I can really recommend that.
